New Mission Dispensary Name

More accurately reflecting its neighborhood, 4Front Venture’s Chicago Dispensary announced last week that its location is now called “Mission South Chicago”, rather than “Mission South Shore”. The store, on 86th and Exchange, is in the South Shore neighborhood, but just a block away from South Chicago, which technically starts at 87th. Most South Shore residents, who pride themselves on a sturdy, Black, middle-class community, consider that area part of the South Chicago neighborhood, one of Chicago’s most crime-ridden neighborhoods.

The Mission Dispensary was hit hard by late May riots and is still closed, with plans to reopen in August.

Midwest Hemp Coalition Launched

As the Hemp Industries Association closes its state chapters, the Midwest Hemp Coalition is launching to offer an advocacy home to Illinois hemp growers.

“Our mission is to increase accessibility and opportunity in the hemp industry through advocacy and diverse community connections. The industry and the Coalition’s activities are particularly important in the current pandemic and recession,” said Kalee Hooghkirk in a press release. Hooghkirk is the new Coalition’s president and owner of United Hemp Co. in West Dundee, Illinois.

The Midwest Hemp Coalition is extending an honorary membership to all 2020 members of the IL-HIA Chapter. The Midwest Hemp Coalition is also offering to all lapsed and pending members a two-year membership for the price of one. In addition, they are offering newly reduced membership levels for veterans, students, and qualifying social equity applicants.
