Illinois Teamsters Local 777 announced last Thursday their plans to seek an election at an Ascend Wellness Holdings’ MOCA cannabis dispensary in Chicago, their second election at a MOCA facility. The first election, for MOCA’s Logan Square location, scheduled for April, was derailed by a petition for decertification this month. The new election petition announced last week is for MOCA’s River North Chicago location.
MOCA Modern Cannabis’s two dispensaries, both in prime Chicago locations, were reportedly sold to Ascend for $30 million last August.
While Teamsters traditionally represent truck drivers, the union has aggressively expanded into many different industries, including representing police officers, nurses, and even college football players.
