Legal weed supporters say critics are trying to subvert will of the voters.
“When we talked about the facility with the city and how we would build it, they wanted us to do tours,” said Cohn. “We’re excited about it. I think we will see much more regional traffic at first, coming into the city for cannabis.”
On average, states took about 16 months to start legal weed sales.
The current license awardees are approved on a conditional basis, with annual licenses expected to follow inside of a four-month period.
Executive Director Jeff Brown outlined the CRC’s mission during Thursday’s meeting as “An effort to devote significant resources over the coming weeks to work within the medicinal cannabis industry to fix deficiencies in their expansion plans.”
“How are people going to make it to the top when lawyer fees cost $40,000 to start? The average person is not going to have that, let alone be able to secure property first.”
Some love the smell of cannabis, others find it a nuisance. I’ve traveled either inside or visited the exterior of multiple dispensaries and cultivation centers over the past week – two dispensaries and three grow operations, to be exact – and all but one passed the smell test.
“I know the state has auto-expungement that has been implemented with some success and there are a lot of groups that have hosted expungement events with success, but there are lawyers and costs for venues.”
No public speaker during the North Jersey meeting expressed support for reinvestment into law enforcement.
