The total number of retail licenses with commence operation orders jumped from about 100 in January 2021, to 216 in April 2022.
The Board also approved its first license for a cannabis testing lab, which went to Bia Diagnostics in Colchester.
Maine currently has eight medical cannabis dispensaries, but that figure does not account for the over 3,000 licensed cannabis caregivers in the state, each of which are allowed to open medical cannabis store fronts.
The new state law outlaws gifting cannabis as a transaction, which means there is an exchange. Smaller interchanges, such as handing a joint to a random person with no expectation is still permitted.
The state will issue a total 12 provisional retail licenses, half of which will be reserved for social equity applicants who will have reduced application fees.
Vermont defines “public buildings” – which must undergo fire safety approval – as all properties excluding owner-occupied single-family homes, daycares, and working farms.
Originally both of the state’s cannabis labs used a threshold of 10,000 colony forming units per gram when testing flower for microbial. That testing standard matches Massachusetts.
The state will automatically expunge all civil and criminal cannabis convictions by July 1, 2024, as per the new law. Adult use sales can begin as early as Dec. 1 and it eliminates medical cannabis fees.
