Revolution a hit with High Times Cannabis Cup judges in Illinois
While Chicago-based Revolution Global did not pull off a Schitt’s Creek-like sweep of the inaugural High Times Cannabis Cup Illinois virtual awards ceremony earlier this week, the vertically-integrated company with a cultivation presence in downstate Delevan won big.
Revolution won six of seven categories in the competition, which ranked the best flower, edibles, concentrates and vapes cultivated and processed in Illinois. While the Chicago Tribune reported that some judges questioned how one company could dominate, there were no immediate demands to rescore the results.
The 100 mg Toffee Chocolate by Bhang, exclusively licensed in Illinois by Bedford Grow, was the other top winner. Also honored were offerings by Cresco Labs, Green Thumb Industries, Grassroots Cannabis, Verano, and Aeriz.
Illinois and Michigan Lt. Governors dispense cannabis advice to their Pennsylvania counterpart
Despite its challenges in scoring the first wave of social equity dispensary applicants, Illinois is still viewed as “the gold standard of legalizing recreational cannabis” by Pennsylvania Lt. Governor John Fetterman.
During a live Facebook Forum last week, Fetterman spoke with Illinois Lt. Governor Julianna Stratton and Michigan Lt. Governor Garlin Gillchrest about his state’s efforts to expand to recreational cannabis sales.
‘If you’re not intentional about equity, it just doesn’ happen because of the systems and the systemic racism that we’ve talked about,” said Stratton. ‘It does not happen that you just end up with equity.”
Pennsylvania was thought to be in line to follow Illinois and Michigan in approving recreational sales sometime in 2020. However, similar to other east coast states including New York, Connecticut and New Jersey, Pennsylvania lawmakers opted to revisit cannabis legalization at a later date during the early days of covid.
