Since the legalization of recreational cannabis a year ago, Michigan medical cannabis provision center owners have watched over 30,000 registered medical cannabis patients drop off the rolls. And, as medical cannabis in Michigan is tested against higher quality standards than recreational, medical prices have stayed 20-30% more than recreational. It seems like as recreational cannabis supply increases in Michigan, patient rolls become increasingly likely to go down.
Meanwhile, in Illinois, medical cannabis users avoid around 30% of retail sales taxes charged to recreational uses, giving savvy cannabis consumers a big incentive to get a doctor’s permission to register as a cannabis patient. In the last year, almost 60,000 Illinoisans have registered as cannabis patients.
Finally, Missouri continues to add about 5,000 new cannabis patients to the rolls every month, as medical cannabis sales finally kicked off earlier this month.
