Illinois regulators have rarely levied fines against cannabis cultivators and during 2019 and 2020, have not levied a single fine against cannabis dispensaries, according to freedom of information act requests made by Grown In. Only five fines have been levied, all were for transportation and security violations at cultivation sites.

Fines levied against cultivation centers during 2019-2020, according to Illinois Dept. of Agriculture.

The largest fine over the last two calendar years was $10,000, levied against Green Thumb Industries’ Rock Island cultivations site in November 2019 by the Illinois Department of Agriculture because a, “Transportation team left vehicle and cannabis unsecured during delivery.”

In response to Grown In’s request, the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation reported that it was unable to locate any record of fines levied against dispensaries.
