Why November 12 still matters

Washington bought 29 more days. The Midwest didn't.

November 12 falls nine days after the midterms, as Illinois' new hemp restrictions take effect and Washington's broader federal hemp crackdown has been pushed to December 11.

The delay creates a new window for negotiation, but leaves fundamental questions about regulation, competition, public health and the future of cannabis commerce unresolved.

The deadline moved. The stakes didn't.
