Chicago Teamsters Local 777 filed a petition with the National Labor Relations Board to organize 19 dispensary workers at PharmaCann’s Arlington Heights, Illinois Verilife dispensary last week. The call for a union vote is part of a wave of dispensary organizing efforts conducted by the Teamsters, while United Food and Commercial Workers Local 881 is attempting to organize cultivation sites in the state.

“Scheduling seems to be a problem with every location I’ve been at,” said Jim Glimco, an organizer with Local 777. “The promise was there would be good jobs, and that’s a promise that needs to be kept.”

An election date still needs to be set, along with a determination if the election will be in person or by mail. Mailed ballot elections tend to be more drawn out, giving the both company and union more time to lobby workers to vote their way.

A PharmaCann spokesperson told Grown In the company would have no comment until they are served with the petition filed by the union.
